I really got lucky with this shot. One of the coolest things about photography is that you’re truly capturing a fleeting moment; a unique moment that will never again happen in time, eternalizing it forever through photography. This is one such moment. I saw this guy (top right corner) just sitting on a rock, seemingly meditating or reflecting on some matters in life. I was on top of a bridge, walking across with other random folks. I stopped and knew there was an artistic photographic moment unfolding, ready to be captured. This moment is so unique because there were actually several folks walking back and forth on the path right behind the gentleman, which I thought was a distraction to the kind of photo I had in my mind’s eye. Finally, after waiting patiently, a clearing occurred. I messed with my camera settings for a unique blurred shot of the water falling: i.e. aperture priority, slow down the shutter, pull down the ISO as low as I can go so to not overexpose, etc. (all that geeky photography stuff photographers get excited about). And I took the shot. Just in time too! After that instance, more pedestrians walked on the path behind and the guy looked up at me, probably concerned that someone was stalking him. Needless to say, this was one of my last shots of him. But I captured the moment! The scaling size of the guy compared to the large water falling, makes you wonder how deep his thoughts ran.
